JWS, thank you for offering this open discussion on these once fringe topics. Audiovisual has really come front and center over the last year. I am an audiovisual engineer by title, but I am feeling a little left behind since my work is usually with closed systems requiring wired connections. I typically work with nCast encoders and send images and audio via a 64x64 switcher and Biamp Tesira frame. Now, I am being asked to provide a capability in a short amount of time without all the switching gear and DSP capability, and feeling a little unprepared to offer solutions and was hoping for some current expertise.
I need a capability that can be used anywhere, but can take microphone inputs, line inputs, and record the video from a system source (usually HDMI in our facility) or a camera I can keep with the kit. I would like to be able to control the camera with a controller to avoid the distraction and noise from moving it manually. I would expect an encoder to have a browser interface to manage the recording, but the device should have storage enough to record up to 8 hours before offloading.
so, Encoder, Camera, Controller, & Microphone(s) seem to be what I need. I can convert XLR to phx or other, but would like to have the option to have more than one microphone and use a wireless or other input. It is possible this equipment suite will be used outside, so rack-mounted capability would be a bonus
Now that I've written this down, it still seems very vague. I hope it's enough to work with and you are ready for follow-on questions (if there's time).
thanks in advance for your recommendations
