Drum Booth camera options

Hi, we want to have a camera in the drum booth focusing on the drummer and wanted to know what you would recommend. We are using the BM Atem Television Studio HD for our video mixing. Initially we were thinking of going with a GoPro Hero 8 but it only has a mini hdmi output..will this be ok?

I don't really recommend GoPros for live multi-cam production for a few reasons:

They usually don't output a proper broadcast frame rate, so they often don't work in production switchers like the ATEMs without being scaled or cross converted beforehand.
Some models require extra hardware like the Media Mod to get HDMI output.
They usually have a lot of latency (delay) on their video outputs. This can become pretty distracting, especially on drum shots where timing is important.

Check out the Marshall CV503 Camera (affiliate link) and the other miniature cameras from Marshall. They are super popular for POV angles in sports and music environments.

What other cameras are you using? There may also be some other options that can be a closer match to your current cameras.

That makes sense I will have a look at the Marshall CV503. On all cameras our output broadcast frame rate is set to 1080i50 and this is set the same on the Atem as well. Will be the CV503 be able to output this?

At the moment we are running mostly camcorders and they are Canon XF205, Canon XF100 and Panasonic PAN-HCX2000. We have one Micro Four Third camera which is the Panasonic GH5S. Sooner or later we want to be having the same make of cameras so each image will look the same and we don’t have to remember all the different settings. 😅

Yes, the Marshall CV503 will output a proper 1080i50 signal over SDI that is compatible with the ATEM.

The Marshalls are usually a good fit because you have quite a bit of control over the image, so they do fairly well with matching other brands and models of cameras.
